Today we find ourselves at Cortez Restaurant and Club. They have been here for 32 years but are closing next month.
My goal today, to determine if Cortex will be missed or if it was time to turn off the lights forever.
When we arrived at Cortez, we were immediately seated as the restaurant was nearly empty.
The waitress wasn't enthused about the tacos. Hard for me to get excited.
As Cortez is an actual sit down restaurant, the taco combo wasn't too bad at 7.99 for 2 tacos and beans. I chose fried flour tacos, one with chorizo, one with chicken and added a third corn beef taco for 3.50.
They brought out some chips and what I think was supposed to be salsa but it had the consistency of tomato purée. Flavor wasn't bad but it wasn't great.
Apparently what I ordered was not the right shell/ingredient combo since they decided that chorizo belongs in a corn shell. Not only was the taco not what I ordered, it was...not good. Let's leave it at that.
The chicken flour taco was absolutely amazing. Great flavor, tons of meat and delicious. The shell had a great crunch to it and stayed together, unlike the other 2 yahoos that broke their tacos.
The beef taco was absolutely underwhelming. It lacked in flavor and just wasn't worth eating. ☹️
Not going to drag this out:
Your food didn't meet the expectations, and they were low. Flavorless meat just isn't my thing. Service wasn't great and you didn't have Mountain Dew. Good bye Cortez. Your best years are definitely behind you.
Let's go to Taco Bell and get some better tacos.
Edit to my rating system. There is not a half taco emoji so half points will no longer be awarded.
