So....... you'd think after 15 weeks of this, we'd have our system down pat. Find a place, plan it out, etc etc. But noooooooooo......... someone's always gotta mess with the planning. This week it was Chris, who apparently isn't going to go into Mr. Taco (which was our planned stop) anytime soon. Apparently he'd been beat up there as kid or something. Whatever it was, it sounded pretty traumatic and Chrissy Boy says he's not going back. So, we high tailed it to another joint right down the street - Three Amigos.
Three Amigos is located in a little strip mall in the 2300 block of north Arkansas. It's a pretty average looking place. And for a Mexican restaurant, it had a disappointingly small menu of tacos: carne asada, barbacoa, and al pastor. Three tacos to pick from at Three Amigos. That's it. I also noticed most of the people there weren't eating tacos, but were ordering from the variety of American food on the menu instead. This threw up a bit of a red flag for me, but what the heck. Tacos were only 1.65/each here, so we were gonna throw down some tacos for sure! I placed my order at the counter and took a seat. I fully expected to have to come back up and get my food, but the lady at the counter did bring it to the table, along with a couple of bottles of salsa: a mild red tomatillo, and a spicier green chile sauce.
I had ordered a couple of each taco, and once they got there the plate actually looked pretty decent. Nothing fancy, but a typical "street taco" plate with cilantro and onion, and with lime, grilled onion, and a pepper on the side. As I usually do, I tried all three tacos with and without salsas. Overall, I would say for zero research on 2 seconds notice, we found another decent place. All of the tacos had a fair amount of meat in them. They were seasoned, but definitely benefited from some lime and salsa. I especially liked the spicy salsa on all three of them. The place isn't fancy, but it was clean (which was apparently Chris' problem at Mr. Taco) and the service was adequate and quick, if not spectacular. Which is a basic summary of the tacos as well: decent tacos, pretty good value, but probably "middle of the road" in my rankings of tacos so far. But hey, if you're in the area looking for a cheap taco, this place is 5 steps above having to settle for crappy tacos from Taco Hell or someplace similar. My overall rankings on the 5 Taco Scale are below.
Food Quality - 3.0 Tacos
Price - $
Value - 4.0 Tacos
Cleanliness - 3.5 Tacos
Service - 3.0 Tacos
Overall Experience - 3.0 Tacos
Likelihood to Return - 3.0 Tacos
